Repeated Periprosthethic Femoral Fracture in a Below Knee Amputee with Ipsilateral Cementless Total Hip Arthroplasty

چکیده
Patients with lower-limb amputations can have various musculoskeletal problems, such as osteoporosis in the amputated limb, and osteoarthritis in either ipsilateral or contralateral limb. Total hip arthroplasty (THA) in below-knee amputees (BKA) have been described previously. In lower limb amputee patients undergoing THA, there may be important preand intraoperative considerations and patients may present a challenging acute postoperative rehabilitation course relative to non-amputee patients. The incidence of periprosthetic femual fractures has increased and is still on the rise with growing numbers of THAs. Even in non amputee patients, the treatment of these fractures is complex and challenging and requires the skills of both trauma surgery and revisional arthroplasty. Surgical options in displaced periprosthetic femoral fractures include open reduction and internal fixation, an arthroplasty revision procedure, or a combination of two. In this report, a case of a refracture after treatment of periprosthethic femoral fracture in a patient with BKA who underwent cementless THA for femur neck fracture is presented. Not only there are limited literature about the outcomes and role of THA in lower limb amputee Repeated Periprosthethic Femoral Fracture in a Below Knee Amputee with Ipsilateral Cementless Total Hip Arthroplasty A Case Report -

Cementless Total Hip Arthroplasty After an Iatrogenic Subtrochanteric Fracture due to Hardware Removal: A Case Report
Introduction: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) after proximal femoral fixation is a challenging procedure due to possible hardware-related complications. Case presentation: A 78-year-old female with hip osteoarthritis had a proximal femoral osteotomy fixed using a blade plate in the same femur 41 years ago. A two-step approach was planned. After a challenging...
متن کاملIpsilateral total hip arthroplasty in patient with an above-knee amputee for femoral neck fracture: a case report.
There is limited literature about the outcomes of total hip arthroplasty (THA) as a surgical option for above-knee amputees. Here, we described one case of femoral neck fracture with above-knee amputation. Two-year follow-up revealed an excellent clinical and radiological outcome. The main challenge of THA posed by the amputation was control of the lower extremity. We recommend inserting a pin ...
متن کاملPrimary Total Hip Replacement for a Femoral Neck Fracture in a Below-Knee Amputee
INTRODUCTION Femoral neck fracture on amputated limb is an uncommon lesion and challenging to manage. CASE REPORT We report a case of a displaced neck fracture of the left femur in a 57-year-old female. She underwent at the age of the three a below-knee amputation of the ipsilateral limb for post traumatic ischemia. The fracture was managed by a total hip arthroplasty (THA), as a primary proc...
متن کاملBipolar Hemiarthroplasty in a Patient with above-knee Amputation: Surgical Technique
INTRODUCTION Femoral neck fractures are a common occurrence in lower limb amputees. Good post-operative results of hip hemiarthroplasty have been described in below-knee amputees. However, to our knowledge, very few such cases have been reported in above-knee amputees. CASE REPORT We present a case of a 75-year-old male patient who underwent above-knee amputation of the right lower limb for s...
متن کاملMinimally Invasive Total Hip Replacement in an Ipsilateral Post-traumatic above-knee Amputation: A Case Report
INTRODUCTION Total hip replacement (THR) is a highly successful operation in alleviating pain and improving the overall function of the hip, in end-stage arthritis of the hip, in otherwise fit patients. However, THR as a surgical option in post-traumatic hip arthritis with ipsilateral above-knee amputation is rarely reported. CASE REPORT We are presenting a case report of a 30-year-old male, ...
